Portland Stage hires professional artists both locally and out-of-town to direct plays, design sets, lights, costumes, and sound for our productions.
Guest Artists are hired on a show-by-show basis. Portland Stage does accept portfolios and resumes from local designers and members of United Scenic Artists, but does not accept unsolicited material from actors.
We use volunteers in many aspects of the theater to help us do what we do, but our Ushers, who help us run performances by greeting patrons, scanning their tickets, seating them, and serving them concessions, are our primary volunteer corps at the theater.
If you are interested in volunteering as an usher, or would like to offer your services as a volunteer in our costume shop, for mailings, for filing, or for other theater-specific needs, please contact our Volunteer Managers. They will be able to help set you up for ushering or direct you to the proper department.
